Coaching & Mentoring

Bee Care Consultancy offers a structured coaching and mentoring programme designed to support new and developing managers in children’s residential care.

This tailored package provides practical guidance, reflective coaching, and operational support to help managers build confidence, embed strong leadership practice, and establish effective systems within their service.

Our support package consists of 7 full days of mentoring and coaching, with delivery structured flexibly according to the needs, experience, and developmental goals of the individual manager and service.

Delivery options:

Short-term intensive route (recommended for new registrations or early stage services)

  • 7 days delivered across approximately 4–6 weeks

Longer-term development route

  • 7 days delivered across approximately 4–6 months

The exact pacing, focus, and scheduling of sessions will be agreed at the outset following an initial assessment of the manager’s strengths, development areas, and the needs of the home.

This programme focuses on leadership development, regulatory understanding, decision-making, and embedding a positive culture within the home.

Outcome: Confident, capable managers who are equipped to lead safely and effectively.

What the Coaching & Mentoring Covers

Support is structured around five core areas:

1. Leadership, Accountability & Decision-Making

We support new managers to develop clear, confident leadership practice, including:

  • Understanding the role and responsibilities of a Registered Manager

  • Making safe, evidence-based decisions in complex situations

  • Managing risk effectively while keeping children central

  • Leading with professionalism, integrity, and consistency

  • Balancing regulatory requirements with relational, child-focused care

  • Developing a clear leadership style that aligns with the home’s ethos

2. Ofsted Readiness & Regulatory Understanding

We ensure managers are inspection-ready and confident in their regulatory responsibilities, including:

  • Understanding Ofsted expectations in practice

  • Evidencing impact and quality of care

  • Preparing for inspections and managing inspector engagement

  • Understanding key regulations and quality standards

  • Using audit and quality assurance processes effectively

  • Strengthening governance, oversight, and accountability

3. Staff Management, Supervision & Culture

We help new managers lead their teams effectively and build a positive, safe culture by focusing on:

  • Effective supervision and reflective practice

  • Managing performance, challenge, and difficult conversations

  • Building trust, morale, and psychological safety within teams

  • Embedding consistent expectations and standards of practice

  • Supporting staff wellbeing while maintaining professional boundaries

  • Developing strong, cohesive leadership within the home

  • Establishing clear recording systems

  • Strengthening safeguarding processes

  • Implementing effective quality assurance frameworks

  • Using audits to drive improvement rather than compliance alone

  • Ensuring records demonstrate children’s progress and outcomes

  • Creating systems that are practical for staff and meaningful for inspectors

5. Child-Centred Practice & Outcomes

At the heart of the programme is ensuring that leadership translates into better experiences for children, including:

  • Keeping children’s voices central to decision-making

  • Understanding trauma-informed and relational approaches

  • Promoting stability, consistency, and emotional safety

  • Strengthening communication with families, social workers, and partners

  • Ensuring care planning is purposeful and outcome-focused

How the Programme is Delivered

Support is provided through a combination of:

  • 1:1 coaching sessions

  • Reflective discussions and case reviews

  • Observation and feedback (where appropriate)

  • Practical problem-solving and action planning

  • Ongoing development planning tailored to the manager

The pace and focus of the programme are agreed following an initial assessment of the manager’s strengths, development needs, and the service context.

Outcome of the Programme

By the end of the coaching and mentoring programme, managers will have:

  • Greater confidence in their leadership

  • Stronger understanding of regulatory responsibilities

  • Improved ability to manage risk and complexity

  • Clearer systems and governance processes
